Why I Shoot Weddings
Every time I visited my grandma, I went straight to the box. Nothing was more magical to me than that box - an old shoebox filled with even older stories. Well, you can call them photos, but for me, they were stories. When she picked up a photo, I had to hold my breath. You see, at that time, I was studying photography, and every time we took an old photo to the scanner, we used archival, acid-free gloves to protect the photo from the oils on our hands, but my grandma had a different approach to preserving these precious prints. She would take a break from cooking, wipe her hands on the kitchen towel and sit down at the table with me. With each photo she picked, I learned more and more about my family history, and when, from time to time, I asked her if I could take some prints to scan at school, she replied, "Just promise me to take care of these photos!". If she only knew how long it took me to remove her fingerprints from the scans...
Sometimes, when planning your wedding, there is unnecessary pressure on what you "must" do or not do on your wedding day. The only thing you need to do on your wedding day is just be. The stories, your family stories, will reveal themselves. And it is my honour to document them.
I hope that one day, my photos will be part of your family history.
